Kolkata Metro lines explained: Blue, Green, Purple, Orange and Yellow
Which Kolkata Metro line goes where, which parts are open, and where to change between lines.
Kolkata has five metro lines open at the moment. Three of them are open only in part, and more is being built.
Blue Line
The oldest line in India. It runs north to south from Dakshineswar through Dum Dum, Esplanade, Park Street and Tollygunge (Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) to Kavi Subhash. See the Blue Line page.
Green Line
East to west from Salt Lake Sector V through Sealdah and Esplanade to Howrah Maidan, with a stretch under the Hooghly river. The two halves were joined at Esplanade in August 2025. See the Green Line page.
Purple Line
From Joka to Majerhat in the south-west. The part into the centre of the city, through Park Street to Esplanade, is still being built. See the Purple Line page.
Orange Line
From Kavi Subhash (New Garia) to Beleghata. The Sector V and airport sections are not open yet. See the Orange Line page.
Yellow Line
Four stations from Noapara to Jai Hind, next to the airport. See the Yellow Line page.
