Kanpur Metro lines explained: the Orange Line from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central

Where Kanpur Metro runs today, which stations it serves, and what is still being built.

Kanpur has one metro line open today, the Orange Line. It runs east to west across the city, from IIT Kanpur in the west to Kanpur Central railway station. The first nine stations are elevated, and the last five are underground.

Orange Line

The line starts at IIT Kanpur and passes Kalyanpur, Vishwavidyalaya and Rawatpur on the way into the city. After Moti Jheel it goes underground at Chunniganj, serves the old markets at Naveen Market and Bada Chauraha, and ends at Kanpur Central. See the Orange Line page for every station in order.

Still being built

The line is being extended from Kanpur Central to Naubasta. Reports say the safety inspection is done and the section awaits its formal opening, but it was not open to passengers when this page was written. We add the new stations here once passengers can ride them. A second, north-south line is also under construction.
